8,000+ Pages: Documented removals tracked by Harvard School of Public Health, EDGI, and verified through archive comparisons.
15 Agencies: Based on confirmed removals across HHS/CDC, EPA, USDA, DOJ/FBI, Census Bureau, NOAA, BLS, Education, and others as reported by Reuters and ACLU.
100+ Legal Challenges: Projected estimate based on active suits by Knight First Amendment Institute, ongoing FOIA litigation, and congressional oversight actions tracked by transparency organizations.
Why Content is Disappearing
Pages weren't taken down because the information was wrong. They disappeared because certain terms—"gender identity," "environmental justice," "climate change," "police misconduct"—were suddenly no longer allowed. Sweeps meant to erase language ended up taking entire sections of federal websites with them. Portals broke. Cross-links failed. Citations vanished. Dashboards meant to ensure compliance went blank.
Still, the record isn't entirely gone. Most of what was removed is preserved in the January 2025 End-of-Term Web Archive. Groups like EDGI and the Knight First Amendment Institute have mirrored what they could. Until the agencies restore these pages—or the courts force them to—the archive is what we have.
